Nice New Visualizer in iTunes 8, Soundspectrum/Andy have anything to do with it this time?
Obviously I not had time to really play with it but it is some nice candy.
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.
In the last 8 years I have tried all the vis there is and it has been my experience with vis that look similar to those above that what you see onscreen in the shots is pretty much what you get and after a while they dont have that attraction because you've seen it before. G-Force is totally different with GF each listening can produce endless designs that never bore.
I think if GF were ever sold to another company you can kiss the innovation and support goodbye.
Maybe not unless Andy, as the creator of the program, can set the conditions thereof in terms that can render such a potential sale null and void.
For instance, if his primary term were to keep the project as open creativity-wise as it is right now, and the potential buyer were to block these features in contravention of said term, there goes the sale.
Of course, even if my example were not quite accurate (i.e. Ithere is a huge void where my knowledge of such matters would otherwise be), this is sheer guesswork. Chances are above excellent that he'll keeps this baby under lock and key (NPI)...and even if he were to entertain the possibility of the unthinkable, I trust his common sense to hand things over to someone just as committed to the long-standing core values that make programs like these what they are...
...holy crow; I was beginning to sound like a PBS pledge drive carnival-barker.
yeah in a Utopian world that would be great but usually when a company buys someones idea its for one of 2 reasons,
1. they want to get hold of it to stop it in its tracks so it can no longer compete with their products.
or
2. they want to put their name on it, then create a final version compatible with mulitple players through licensing and you would get one static version of GF that worked for certain players who entered said licensing agreement and further development would likely stop.
Say Itunes were to buy GF, the program would be totally out of Andy's hands and the vis would be developed strictly for itunes and would probably stay as it is/was on the day it was sold.
out of all the vis goin, GF is the only one that has continued to get better over time the rest have stopped in their tracks. I think it would be very bad for GF as a program (not soundspectrum as the company would make a huge pay day) if Andy sold it to another company.
This is a visualizer called magnetosphere. It's been available as a download for itunes for a while now. It's pretty crazy but unfortunately you have to run itunes bloatware to use it.
G-force and whitecap are much more impressive in my book.
hmm it looks like magneto but its either a cut down version, or a new version completely.
I know apple used the old vis for so long because it had low overheads and ran reasonably well on most macs at the time.
Maybe they have the same demands for this version as even on my 1.8 celeron notebook this vis runs rather well, well as long as iTunes doesnt crash as per usual.

As good as G-Force? None. But there are different ones I like, like the
"Psychedelia Viz pack" (or however it's spelled) , and "Twisted Pixels" And "pixel Trip" They have some different stuff, but I always go back to G-force as my main viz. (and Whitecap)
G-Force has endless variations, that's what makes it so good.
(whitecap, softskies, and the holiday edition are excellent too)

I will throw Rabit Hole into the mix, Its not very dynamic but it looks really great when you listen to slow and strange music.
