Can I get Squeezebox music displayed on G-Force StandAlone?

Post by cafestomp »

Is there a way to get G-Force to display on my computer, the music streaming from SlimServer to my Squeezebox? None of the options in the Standalone seem to recognize this "source".

Thanks!

open GF and right click the screen, in the menu look for audio input source click it, there will see all of your soundcards audio options avaiable to GF.

Look for "what you hear" and check that for GF audio input

hope this helps

Thanks for the help! However I just checked and I don't have a "what you hear" option.... I have quite a few choices but none of them seem to get a reaction in G-Force. If it matters, I have a PC.

How about this?? (I don't know if it will work, but worth a shot)

Go to Start--control panel, sounds and audio devices, Click "Audio" tab

Go down to "Sound Recording" And click the volume Button

A smaller window will open

There should be volume sliders in it.

Underneath each slider, it has "select". Make sure "Select" box is checked under "What U Hear" , check it if it's not.

Close the window.

Hope this helps.

If you do not have those options, either you do not have the right audio device selected, or you sound card does not have these options (I have Soundblaster Live! Sound Card)

you can find the volume options for your computer in your control panel, click the sounds and audio control devices icon and click the audio tab, there you will see your soundcard device, click the volume icon and make sure all the levels are set propperly, also while you have the volume device open go to the top and click properties, you will see an option for playback and recording. make sure all the boxes are checked in both sections and leave the recording circle checked. this may add some options for the standalone to see

does GF react when you use the plugin with another player?

If the standalone doesnt see your soundcard use GF with another player that streams music like winamp, if it accepts your source for streaming music you're in!

If your PC does not offer a "what you hear" option then you might want to upgrade your soundcard to one with more capabilities. you can get a nice soundblaster for 50 bucks that will do the job very nicely.

Thanks again for the info. Trying these suggestions did help me discover more menu options, but not "what you hear". I tried all the choices, but none of them seemed to show a response with G-Force standalone.

I have no problems with Window Media Player or iTunes with visualizations. I am using the sound built onto the mobo, which actually sounds quite good. I could buy a separate sound card but I'm not sure if that would actually help.

I'm open to any other suggestions! Thanks again for the help!

if you use a 3rd party soundcard like soundblaster it will give you the what you hear option for GF to listen to thereby solving your problem

I have the Squeezebox as well and cannot get G-Force to work with the output. I think the problem is the assumption that Squeezebox output is going to the soundcard audio device. Slim devices are using their own 'server' to distribute the audio over TCP/IP.

Therefore, there's never a device listed on the right-click menu of the standalone tool referencing Squeezecenter (or at least I havent been able to get one there).

Of note is that audio does not play on the PC where SqueezeCenter is installed - its only distributed to the devices connected over networking.
