cutting out, no widescreen. unusable as is

Post by johnwillyums »

Hi All. This is the second time I've tried G Force and I have to say it looks lovely. However I had problems with it last time (months ago, different pc) and I seem to have a couple of issues already.
Firstly: when in full screen mode it just stops when an album track ends and I have to start it again.
Secondly: I have a Samsung 226BW widescreen monitor, resolution 1680x1050. When I go to full screen mode I am getting a 4:3 image with about 3 inches blank on both sides. To make matters worse , when I come out of full screen or it cuts out at the end of a track I get a boxy 4:3 desktop with a much lower resolution and larger font lettering etc. The only way to stop this is by stopping Winamp altogether.
Consequently it's not really usable as it is.
Does anyone have an easy answer?
My system is as follows- Asus P5N-E SLI, Q6600, 4GB RAM, 8600GT GPU, 500GB HDD running Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
Thanks, John :?:

look for the soundspectrum folder that contains the prefs files for GF.

I dont know where it would be located in vista but in windows xp its in docs sand settings/application data / soundspectrum folder.

open the prefs file marked winamp and edit the max x and max y parameters to match the res you want .

juxtiphi. Thanks for your response. I found the Soundspectrum folder, opened it to reveal a g force folder opened that and saw these- Colormaps, Documentation, Flowfields, Resources, Scripts, Sprites, Themes , Waveshapes, Licence Agreement(x2) and GForce.dll.
In Resources there is a common file inside of which is a Reset Prefs file.
There is a similarly named file in Scripts.
Both open as documents and both are different. The one in Resources, Common File seems to be about screen resolution and mentions X and Y axis but there is no mention of Winamp anywhere in any of the folders and no indication of how to change things.
Cheers, John :?:

vista may be different than xp and I dont know anything about vista,

so you found the soundspectrum folder located in your program files

you need to find the folder that contains the prefs files. search your computer for this file " Preferences (Winamp).txt " or search for another soundspectrum folder, when you find it look inside for said file.

when you find this file open it with notepad and you will see the max x and max y

Hi Juxtiphi. I did a search as you suggested but it only comes up with the Soundspectrum website and several mentions in favourites.
In other words it can't even find the Soundspectrum folder I mentioned in my previous post.
This is most odd but gets me nowhere.
THanks very much for your help, John

Ok, As far as I know GF needs a prefs file to work. unless vista is so different that it doesnt need one.

but the fact that you cannot find one is strange.

Have you tried doing a complete uninstall along with full deletetion of all GF remnants. then clean your registry, restart and then do a fresh install and make sure that you update GF to the latest version.

Hi. Yes it is odd. It seems very odd to me that a search cannot even find the soundspectrum folder although I can see it in programs on my c. drive. As for GF remnants of my last attempt with this software the installer informed me it had detected and was removing them during the install.
This whole attempt was prompted by a mailing from soundspectrum suggesting I try the new version so it's up to date. Also I cleaned the registry just before installing it.
Bear in mind I do have limited functionality so it is really there. However I have a feeling that this software will not work properly with Vista 64x. No shame in that. Adobe CS3 won't work in 64x without an elaborate work around in the command line and registry.
I am very grateful for your thought and effort but I don't think I want to do hours of work just for a visualisation program so maybe I'll just wait for soundspectrum to catch up with 64 bit computing.
Thanks again, John :?
