I would like to see a feature that allows the user to control the Start and Stop of Particles using MIDI. This would bring a tremendous improvement on display control allowing fast start and stop of numerous effects on a MIDI device. Instead of scrolling through a list, all the user would need to do is right click on the Particle name to display the new list that says something like "Edit MIDI control mapping".
Any sort of Midi control would be a very welcome addition. Then we could "play" G-Force while it responds to music. It could establish G-Force as a live music performance tool. Maybe midi functionality could be embodied in a "commercial" or "professional" version of G-Force. In other words, I would pay extra for this !

you can already play GF while the music is playing by one of 2 methods,
either click on the arrows where it shows which configs are running and look in the drop down box for the wav, flow field, or color map you want and it will change imediately. pressing K will kill any particles running and pressing y will generate a new particle any time you want.
or you can design a script that will automatically run certain configs of your choosing. I dont know how to script but when I sit and use GF its very easy to change the stuff I see on screen thru the toolbar. Once you get to know some the configs its a bit easier to choose the ones you want but I "play" G-Force all the time.
I dont know how this differs from midi control but I guess its close to the same thing no?
No. It's not even close. Midi control means I can trigger things from a remote location. When using midi, you can assign actions to certain midi events. I would be able to pull up a predetermined config with the press of one key. Scrolling through a list would be cumbersome and would also mean having to have the computer interface within reach. In addition to direct access to G-Force functions, midi would mean I could capture a performance for later playback. If performing with midi backed music, one of the pre-recorded midi tracks could be dedicated to controlling G-Force. Perhaps triggering predetermined jpg images on cue. Additionally, midi access could mean multiple parameters could be accessed at the SAME TIME. You can't do that with a computer keyboard and mouse.
I have been messing about with Bomes Midi Translator. It converts key strokes into Midi messages or vice versa. My thought is that I could create some scripts that would launch via keystrokes. I could then assign midi notes or CCs to keystrokes via Bomes and then trigger my scripts with my Midi controller. I still have a lot of work to do to get it working correctly but if someone wants to try it out on the meantime, log into http://www.bome.com/midi/translator/ and check it out.
