Attn: New Rules & Regs Announcement Posted...

I seriously encourage everyone to read this. It is deliberately long-winded as it contains a lot of info that needs to be said as a matter of Internet protocol.
Also, I have purposefully locked the thread due to its nature. When ( hint hint ;) ) you finish reading it, please direct all commentary to this thread only. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions or clear things up.

A couple of pointers on your Rules and regs post. Take or leave my advice as always. :)

Try and make the rules a little more general. Less of the I and me. Less of the first person. A more general 'we do not tolerate this' rather than 'I will not (i.e. cannot) tolerate at all the following things from anyone-I-don't-care-who.' or

'My policy here, though, will be this...and please do read this carefully I beg you '

You seem to explain/talk too much. Keep it simple.

e.g.

"RULE B. No Flaming. Period.
Contrary to what some might think, this can be a rather tricky matter. Let me explain. I have seen in many boards (and even here on ultra-rare occasion) some rather heated debate over one thing or another. This is fine, and in fact, par for the course in any level of human interaction. My policy here, though, will be this...and please do read this carefully I beg you :

The occasional--and it really should be occasional--profane outburst-oriented response to what you perceive as someone's "dumb" etc. comments over anything must be focused on the nature and subject of the comments ONLY. Crossing the line into the realm of the personal attack will NOT be tolerated. This will be dealt with first by means of e-mail from me containing 1. my rabid displeasure and 2. a friendly explanation of the repercussions absent any attempt at resolving the incident.
In this particular case only, I expect the recipient--immediately upon finding said letter in his in-box--to furnish me with a calm, cool and collected explanation. This must include a copy of the e-mail I sent and is not to be separately composed. Deliberate failure to abide by these instructions will result in a 7-day suspension of account. Also, for the sake of maintaining good order in the community, I may invoke the right--provided I have such authority--to monitor any off-the-board progress in the matter.
A second offense will simply be met with a 7-day suspension of account without warning. Three-timers **will** be "nuked" (see Part II, Point #4) and---in the most extreme circumstances and only after in-depth consultation with Andy---risk further action. End of argument. Non-negotiable. "

You have already a section on consequences. So most of above is not needed.

So a more simple

"As always failure to comply will result in consequences. See Section xx"

It might be an idea to hyperlink the word flaming to something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming

So the newcomers know what it is. Not everyone does.

I might do something like-

"RULE B. No Flaming. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlamingPeriod.

Discussion is good, even heated debate is good. We encourage free of expression here. But keep it civil and don't decent into flaming each other.

As always failure to comply will result in consequences. See Section xx"

In my book that is good enough.

Oh too much bold for my liking words and the odd senetence cool but more than that (paragraphs) IMHO is too much.

Maybe also somewhere link to basics like Netiquette too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netiquette

Hope it helps

PS in the Winamp forums my sig states simply

"Rules are for the guidance of wisemen and the obedience of fools"

Stuff that everyone should follow. :)

I think a 7 day ban is a little bit short. How about a month. That would probably cause a certain amount of pain to anyone. The ban should definitely be a month for a second offense.
Take care.
