Sprites Not Moving - Fix found

Post by DJ »

Hi, For many recent GF versions I have not been able to get foreground sprites to move around the screen. (tried many PCs, different Op Systems and tried under WMP and Winamp, tried adjusting values in Default.txt and creating unique scripts etc. as well).

Discovered today (using GF 4.7.4) that if I copy the (Default).txt from the (Non-Auto) folder over the top of the file with the same name in the (Auto Foregrounds) folder that my foreground sprites now move again. They also start from a random location on the screen just like the old days.

Thought I'd share this as I love GF and was disappointed to lose the moving sprite feature. I'm sure others have the same problem. Cheers. :P

Correction

That should have been GF version 2.8 not 2.7.4 in my previous comment. Cheers.

FYI - Traced it to:

To make Sprites move:
X="XPOS"
Y="YPOS"

Sprites not move:
X="0"
Y="0"

I too had been puzzled over this -- many thanks for posting the fix.

For A dummy like me, I would like to know exactly what certain terms means, and what they look like. I don't know the difference between a sprite and flowfields.

I was never good at scripting. In fact, I am lousy.

I did change the sprites as suggested above, and it "seems" to have made a difference. I did not know what I was missing.

I was even missing my backgrounds, so I changed those too.

(waiting for them to show, like the moon, etc. I saw the moon before.

Can we add images?

yes you sure can :wink: i changed my images format to same size as ones geforce has just to be safe and they work. now, i just want to be able to control which ones load first and stuff. i know we can but still learning myself. but yes you can add your own background pictures.

for example:

c:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\Sprites\(Auto Backgrounds)

is where you put your pictures. i only put a few (6) in there. didnt want to overload it but shouldnt be a problem.

Personally, I don't see any issue wih how many pics you drop into the Sprites folder. Matter of fact, one fellow user pointed out that he has maybe like a couple thousand pics in there.

Speaking from personal experience, I can say, that GF might have an issue with the size of the pic you drop into the app. Something really big can, at best, cause a major "burp" in overall flow when it loads. At worst, it just won't show properly.

I'm not sure how big the pic has to be before you notice problems. I would recommend experimenting with your pics in order to find out the max for your particular screen dimension.

Back around version 2.2, I made scripts for slideshows. There were at least 100 separate pics. It slowed the startup, but all the picx were there.
