COVER ART/10.3.6/itunes 4.7/GF Gold
I am not sure if there is any solution to this, but all of my cover art is appearing posterized.. Is there any way to display it normally?
Thanks Andy/Jay .. You guys are awesome and so is your product. (I tried it also with some hypnosis tracks in itunes.. whooa.. Timothy Leary lives on!!!!)

I have also had the "posterized" (or "negative image") artwork for the last couple of versions of G-Force Gold. I am using a 800 MHZ Ti PowerBook with Mac OSX 10.3.6 and iTunes.
The mangled artwork only happens at the screen depth of 8 bits. It's OK at 16 and 32 bits, but both of those are labeled "not recommended" and reduce the frame rate significantly.
This is a fantastic product. It would graduate to "super fantastic" if the 8 bit artwork problem could be fixed!

Posterized cover art
I did find i could get "normal" cover art, but had to play around with some of the resolution choices, etc..Frame rate does appear to be slower, or choppier..
So it is definitely something that could be improved upon.. I also requested that SoundSpectrum create a PDF defining each of the HELP preferences so that users could have a greater understanding of how to best optimize the program.
Let meknow if you need any further assistance.

Please email me a copy of the mp3 file and i'll look at it (this goes for anyone having a problem). If it's too big, post it on a website somewhere and email me a the URL. As a last resort, email me and i can send you a login to my ftp server.marc01 wrote:I am not sure if there is any solution to this, but all of my cover art is appearing posterized.. I'd be glad to do that, but how? There is no email address listed in your post, and if I click on "Profile" below your post, the email address is blank.andy55 wrote:Please email me a copy of the mp3 file and i'll look at it (this goes for anyone having a problem). In iTunes, is the "Cover Art" stored within the MP3 file?

Per Andy's suggestion to change the bit rate, cover art is now working perfectly. Not sure if that helps anyone, but i haven't had any further problems since then.

RE: Cover Art
Just wondering if there is any progress on the "posterized" or "inverted color" problem with cover art in 8 bit mode. Problem still exists for me in the new gold 2.7.2.

It's actually not a problem--in 8 bit mode, there is no way to display "true" color (by definition). You need to use 16 or 32 bit fullscreen mode.

I wonder if maybe you have not yet seen the effect that this topic has been discussing. The "posterized" or "inverse color" effect is a bizzare coloration of the poster art, where the colors sometimes even seem to rotate with the color scheme of the visualizer. It is not just that the cover art is being displayed in 8 bit color. Besides, if you switch to windowed mode (where you will still be seeing the weird effect), then use the left or right arrow to go to another tune, the cover art is suddenly displayed very nicely until you go back to full screen, where the "weird color" effect reappears (always keeping G-Force in 8 bit mode). This is with latest iTunes under latest Mac OSX on a Ti 800MHZ PowerBook.
Is this the effect you are referring to?

I too am suddendly experiencing the posterized cover art. I had this problem with an earlier version, that somehow I corrected, but now forgot how.
Is it only the bit rate that effects this? what's the keyboard control to change this?
If changing it still doesn't solve the issue, what do you suggest next?
Thanks Andy!

Marc01,
Just to avoid some possible confusion, the setting that seems to enable or disable the "weird color" cover art effect is "bit depth" (number of bits per pixel, which relates to total number of displayable colors), not "bit rate" (which is bits per second). You can change this via a "Shift M". It should be noted that (at least for my configuration), the bit depth at which the problem occurs (8 bit) is labeled as "recommended" when you select it, yet the depths at which the problem does not occur (16 or 32) are labeled "not recommended".
Here's hoping that Andy can identify and correct this.
Andy, are you able to reproduce the problem? Can I provide any further troubleshooting help?

I am amazed that anyone is running 8 bit it looks damn awful with just 255 colours. Maybe Andy still 'recommends' 8bit but for the most smooth colour run it on 32bit. Macs truely must be poor not to be able to run G-force at 32bit and a decent res.halberstadt wrote:I have also had the "posterized" (or "negative image") artwork for the last couple of versions of G-Force Gold. I thnk I may have some insight into what's going on....marc01 wrote:I just double checked and in fact the cover art does become posterized when going from large screen to full screen.
If you need any more data to help solve this, let me know..
Thanks.
When GF enters or exits fullscreen mode, still has the image format from the previous mode. When a new track comes up, GF will make fresh cover art. So, when you see a problem w/ cover art, switch to a new track w/ cover art, *then* display cover art. If the problem goes away, it was b/c of the mode switch. If it doesn't then we may have a problem.
