Can you run an app from a script?

Hi,

Firstly great vis. I was wondering if it was possible to run an external app from within a script?

The reason ... I wrote an app to take still shots from a webcam and I'd like to script in the ability to take photos then put these up as sprites within GF a few seconds after the photo is taken. Great for the charity discos I run.
