Supernewbie needs help to make settings permanent

Post by mickesjo »

Hi :)

First of all I hope you don't give me the RTFM or similar  I have read the documentation and I have tried virtually everything I can think of but every settings change I try to make are erased with every restart. I find it hard to believe that that's supposed to happen.

I'm not very confident with high level tech stuff but at least I know my way around the computer and I have edited settings files before. This time, though, I have no idea even where to start :(

I managed to edit the boot.txt to set the hight max to 1200 to eliminate the letterbox but here comes the tricky part:

How do I change these very few settings:

1 Stop Toolbar from starting together with GForce.
2 Set the track info/album art to "always show"

Other than that I'm extremely happy with the default appearance :)

I'm kinda hoping for a hint on what string in what file should be edited with what value  BTW - I have the "Gold" software which I recently purchased :)

Thanks for a great plugin - many eyes are a staring around the workplace :D

On the toolbar there is a sorta button in the middle along the bottom. It's under the left/right arrow buttons. Click it once and you should see a number of choices including "Visualization Preferences" and "Toolbar Preferences". Under the 1st one select your full screen video mode under the second one mentioned above uncheck "Start toolbar when G-Force starts"

Enjoy. :D

Thans for the quick reply! :) But, this is exactly what I'm doing - and it works while GForce still runs. However, if I close it and open it again every checkbox value will be back at default :(

My problem is simply that my settings don't "stick" :(

Thanks again :)

When you exit toolbar it's supposed to save the settings.

You can trying editing the file yourself, it's located at

C:\Documents and Settings\ <Your user name here> \G-Force\Toolbar Preferences.txt

(On a PC anyway, don't know about a Mac)

OK :)

I think the problematics are getting narrower. My folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Sjö\G-Force

...is empty (there *is* a "themes"-folder though). I have noticed that trying to saving a "theme" of my own renders an error message stating that "Folder/path not available" or similar. It's not an issue of access or authority - this is a standalone laptop and I'm admin.

Now it strikes me that perhaps the "ö" in my last name isn't supported or something. This mght also be why GForce hasn't written a "default" preferences file in that location.

What else can be wrong? :(

Thanks again for all the help and I'm sorry if my English (or my posts in general) is confusing!

Edit: I tried to save a theme with the name "Mickes". GForce created the folder in the right place but no theme file and I got the error message again... don't know if that means anything but clearly the path is accessible in some way at least...

Edit2: The correct error message says "Path/folder not found"

This is fixed in the next version of G-Force. Thanks for reporting it and for your patience.
