G-Force and MegaSeg: why won't it work...?

Post by AEChadwick »

I would like to use G-Force as a visualizer for my MegaSeg playlist(s). I have downloaded and registered the platinum version (ie., standalone, etc), but I cannot get the Standalone app to recognize any "system level" output. Using "Shift-A," the standalone app will only switch between "internal mic" and "line in." It will not respond to the output from MegaSeg.

Is there a setting or preference I am missing?

All the docs say "[G-Force] visualizes any audio source, including CD’s/DVD’s, internet radio, microphone, auxiliary line-in support for live music, etc." I paid for the platinum version specifically to get the "any audio source" functionality. I am getting a little upset.

Seriously, I have searched each setting, and I can't figure out how to get it to visualize any audio source other than "line in." (I have tried to search the forums for this, but if I missed a thread feel free to post a link here!)

Thanks![/b]

MegaSeg is not supported directly by G-Force so you purchased the standalone version to use with it. However, the standalone version accepts audio only from an external source (or it's own built in wave). You'll need to run sound back into the computer. You can purchase a Y cable that would plug into the line out jack. One split of the Y would go to your current output device (computer speakers, stereo etc) and the other split would be available to input back into the computer. You would also need a wire with a male connector on each end that would connect one out of the Y back into the line input of the computer.

I assume a Mac uses the same 1/8 in headphone jacks that a PC uses?

How would this set-up avoid revrb. Audio played internally, is cycled back in and played again... Or does having a plug in the input port stop the internal source of audio?

yes, the Mac uses the same cabling; although there are special "Audio" workstation Macs that also have RCA-audio and video in ports.

Thank you all for such quick replies! It's supercool that G-Force has such a great community.

I suspected a splitter might be the way to do it, but I really wanted to avoid that... always leads to messy sound, some feedback, distorted output, that sort of thing.

I am going to spend the morning seeing if Jack for OS X will do the job correctly. (However, I honestly think the G-Force description should be downgraded to "[G-Force] visualizes any external audio source, including CD’s/DVD’s, internet radio, microphone, auxiliary line-in support for live music, etc."

Incidentally, I am using a PowerBook G4 17" HD. I often use a G4 tower with an AudioPhile Delta 2496 with RCA outputs, but I'm trying to go portable... I am reviewing firewire-audio-bridge solutions (ie., the headphone jack would then be exclusively for monitoring).
