VBAR freezing up Windows Media Player - Help??
Hi,
I just installed GF Gold and everytime the VBAR loads when WMP loads the application freezes up. I have uninstalled WMP v10 / Reinstalled / Uninstalled GF Gold / Reinstalled. Still locks up...
Is there a way to remote this part of the application and/or disable it when WMP starts up?
Other than this small problem this app is nice!!
Brian

Re: VBAR freezing up Windows Media Player - Help??
Do you mean the toolbar freezes things up or do you mean the V-Bar? If you mean the V-Bar, there's a pref in the toolbar to have it start (or not) on startup. If you can't get at that pref b/c the toolbar is freezing up before you can get to it, delete the "G-Force" folder in your C:/Documents and Settings/Username/ folder.Brian wrote:Hi,

This aside, if there is a problem with the toolbar (or VBar) I really really want to get some insight on it (so I can fix it), so please offer any other observations or notes that you may have. If it is the toolbar that's freezing, please run the gold uninstaller and then download and install the G-Force 3.0.1 trial version (and verify that runs w/o problem).
Thanks,
Andy
No luck...
Andy,
I have completely uninstalled WMP and GF. I made sure all GF folders were deleted and the main reg key in HKEY_LM / Software / ... I rebooted the machine, installed WMP 10 and it ran fine. I then installed GF and rebooted once again...
When I launch GF the VBAR comes up, but WMP freezes. In task manager it is still running and playing music. It is just that the GUI is frozen. Must CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out of it.
I tried setting the option for the VBAR not to launch but don't know if that helped or not.
When I was running the trial version of GF everything worked fine. Is it possible you can provide me with an unlocked trial version until we can get this worked out?
You probably don't need them but my system specs are below...
Intel 468 2.8GHz / 800FSB
1GB Kingston PC3200
Two 73GB SCSIs
ATI A9550 128MB AGP 4x
Dell 24" UltraSharp LCD - 2405FPW / Running in 1920x1200 - 32
Any help you can provide me to get this issue resolved would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Fixed
Wow, interesting (ugh!)... I've been recently investiaging a J River Media Center crash that may be related to the problems you were seeing. I've made the fix and 3.0.1 has been reposted as of last night. When you have a moment, please re-download and install G-Force Gold and see if it runs (with hyperthreading on). If not, please verify that it still works with hyperthreading disabled.Brian wrote:Turned off Hyperthreading and everything seems to work now.
Take it easy,
Brian
Separately, since I don't have a hyperthreading CPU, please tell me where in windows one disables it (so I can tell other users who email us how to disable it).
Thanks,
Andy
Hyperthreading
Andy,
When I get home tonight I will download the latest rev of G-Force Gold and install w/ Hyperthreading turned on.
On the topic of turning on / off hyperthreading... It is always controlled in the bios. On motherboard w/ hyperthreading capability enter the bios during boot by hitting DEL. It will be in a slightly different location depending on the BIOS, but there will be a Hyperthreading selection, just select On/Off.
I will let you know what happens when I test the Hyperthreading tonight...

In lieu of all this HT issue, I'm breaking down and buying a Dell 3.1Ghz w/ HT, hoping like heck that I can repro this problem (and proceed to fix it). If I can't, my only remaining option is to make a housecall to someone who's experiencing this (you!). Since my old stomping grounds is SD (I was a submarine LT on a sub at the Point Loma subbase), I wouldn't mind coming out there to try to fix this problem (and visit with a couple friends while I'm out there) if you were up for it.
Andy
The HT issue has been resolved--check out the thread:Brian wrote:Looks like you got the HT issue resolved man. I got some trance beats playing w/ HT on!! Nice man. My wife and I live in Mission Valley. So where do you live now? San Diego is a cool place man. You are welcome by anytime man!

So when you get the chance, turn HT back on, install this new build of 3.0.1, and G-Force should run w/ no stuttering and no freezing, etc.
Bummer--now I need to come up with another excuse to come to San Diego!
Andy
