Embarrassingly Stupid Questions

Post by mbastable »

Forgive me - I've only recently bought G-Force Platinum, and the following questions are probably wince-makingly idiotic. The quality of my contribution will improve with time and familiarity.

1. The advice on site concerning Flowfield Unions is this:

Want to turn FlowField Unions on/off?
Using the G-Force Toolbar, you can toggle on/off the "FlowField Unions" checkbox within the "Visualization Preferences".

Terrific. Except I can't find 'Visualisation Preferences'. Or any other preferences. My toolbar is key-shaped, and has the faders and picklist stuff, but no tabs as far as I can see. What have I missed?

2. Screensaver.

I assume it's around somewhere as it comes with the Platinum edition. But it doesn't show up as a pick in the XP 'Display Settings/Screensavers' window, so do I have to do something to install it, or is it hiding somewhere waiting for me to figure it out?

1)
Yea, I kinda had the same problem at first. At the very bottom and center of the "key" is a button. Hard to find at first, but just click it once to open up all the options.

2)
The screensaver is a seperate download. Just go to the download page and you'll find it there http://www.soundspectrum.com/support/do ... ducts.html

1) It's rather carefully hidden. There is a very subtle button at the bottom centre of the straight bit of the key. It highlights as you pass the mouse over it. Click it to see the options.

2) If I remember right it is a separate download and install that works with the exiosting installation.

Thank you. Both. Simultaneously.

Got the screensaver - so that's one problem killed.

But - this FlowField Union thing. That still caused me trouble. I've solved it, so you can stop reading now - what follows is merely intended as an illustration of the truism that if there's a way for a new user to cock it up, that way will be found.

I've discovered the dropdown for preferences, though slightly sheepish about having failed the initial IQ test. My problem was that the checkbox for FlowField Union was greyed-out. In fact, all the boxes in that column were greyed-out. The stuff on the right - Text and so on - was all there to be played with, but everything in the left column from PixelDoubling to Show Track was unavailable.

If there was a helpdesk, I'd've called it at that point. And the guy on the desk would have spent half an hour getting me to read back to him version numbers, filenames, settings and all that standard stuff. And eventually he'd have said, "Er...you do actually have G-Force running, don't you?"

And I'd've said, "No. Do I need to?"

You have to have G-Force running (in addition to the toolbar) or else all the visualization-related controls are disabled (ie, greyed out).
