How to Delete Ugly Barf ColorMaps

Post by DZwarych »

How do I systematically cycle thru all color map files while G-Force is running to purge the barf of all those color maps I don't prefer?

I can't tell good from bad from the 1 pixel high tiny strip of color when I view the color map picture files in Windows Pictures Viewer.

I love G-Force Platinum...especially in my favorite colors of rich jewel-like berry tones : navy blueberry, violet raspberry, purple grape.

But not when VERY ugly colored visuals come up in a faded off-color pink/orange/yellow barf mix.

A step by step procedure would be Great!

2 ways to do this, One, is to create a custom colormap theme, or identify each of the ones you dont like by name and then delete them from the color maps folder.

How to Delete Ugly ColorMaps

Post by DZwarych »

Yes, this is what I am asking for help on.

I don't know how to find all the ugly color maps by name and delete them from the color maps folder. I must have 300+ ColorMap files here in standard G-Force download. Maybe 25 are really horrible.

Some Color Maps are in separate Folders: BK, btt, DRE, DT, ethan, Mark L, mike, Ted. Who are those people? I cant be looking in 8 separate folders for each file name I want to delete. Move all into one folder to make it easy.

Can you gently fill me in, baby steps now....?

Step 1: Start-up G-Force, Play some audio
Step 2: Hover mouse to Right Side, click ColorMaps
Step 3: ( Do I choose Active ColorMaps or ColorMap Categories?)

Step 4: Click each ColorMap Name in turn, watching for colors you don't like. if OK, click the next one in turn, advance through all pages using the Down Arrow at the bottom of the List.

Step 5: When you have found a ColorMap you want to delete, Open a new Window then Find the Colormap folder (Ex: C: \Program Files\SoundSpectrum\GForce\ColorMaps
Step 6: Sort these files by Name. Find your ColorMap .png file and .txt file (if one exists)

Step 7: Delete both the .png and .txt for the ColorMap name (Alternately, Move them to a Backup sub-Folder not below the ColorMaps folder..... so that G-Force won't find them when it runs again.

Step 8: To prevent a new download install from re-populating all the ColorMaps you just deleted, you should (.....what to do ? )

ugly barf is in the eyes of the beholder

File Modified: "C:\Users\Your Account\AppData\Roaming\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\ColorMaps\(Categories)\(Custom).txt"

Menu->ColorMaps->ColorMap Catagories->(Custom) Edit->

Click on the ColorMap Name to preview
Check Box to include

Menu->Settings->Theme Editor->(Custom Theme)

Edit the (Custom Theme)
and attach[+] THIS (Custom) ColorMap Catagory ONLY
(Make sure the other ColorMap Catagories are blank)

Caution: When editting the (Custom Theme), all the Element (WS, Particles, ...) Catagories are initially set to (Custom),
which are initially UNSET (UNLESS you went through the SAME procedure outlined above for the ColorMaps, defining each of the OTHER element catagories). Set them all to Suggested[+] (or whatever else you want...)

You may want to set the StartUp Theme to (Custom Theme).

Don't ATTEMPT to create a new custom theme, because I have had some issues.

This will probably make less than zero sense until to try things...

Hello DZwarych

This is the easiest although time consuming method to remove the ColorMaps that are not to your liking.

1) Have pen and paper ready.
2) Start G-Force.
3) Press Shift + D until you see the word 'Partial' in the top left corner of your monitor.
4) Each time a ColorMap loads the name will be displayed.
5) Write down the name of the ColorMap not to your liking.
6) Press W to load the next ColorMap.
7) Continue until you have a list of all those you do not like.
7a) Close G-Force.
9) In Program Files \ SoundSpectrum \ G-Force create a new folder, name it anything you like.

Now go into the ColorMap folder, select the unwanted ColorMaps, use cut and paste to remove them from the ColorMap folder to your new folder. You will have missed some ColorMaps you don't like, when you see one do as above.

This method removes the ColorMaps you don't like from showing in G-Force, but you still have them in the new folder just in case.
.

You also may want to look into the ColorMap Category "Low Saturation." It may already have some of the ColorMaps that you're talking about.

Hello DZwarych

Your welcome - you can use the same method with WaveShapes, FlowFields, and Particles.

With the method I have described there would be no need to use the ColorMap Category.

Purge Process - Random Colormaps?

Post by DZwarych »

After entering Full Screen mode, I type Shift-D for debug mode to display the colormap names as they change every 20 secs (my Colormap interval time setting).

If I type Shortcut key W, a new RANDOM ColorMap is displayed?

Q? How to cycle thru systematically the alphabetical list of Colormap files from Colormap directory (I printed off).

I want to find and move out the weakest ones I don't prefer (line green, scotch gold, orange etc).

Hi Davez,

Pressing 'w' initiates a random ColorMap from within whatever ColorMaps you have active. If you're looking for a list of keyboard shortcuts, press 'h'.

You can also use the toolbar to cycle through the color maps and set them to stay on screen longer with the slider from there too. Or you can do this from the onscreen menu. look in colormaps and see the clock, there you can set the time for how long they stay onscreen

Scrolling thru Colormaps Alphabetically

Post by DZwarych »

Thanks FrankN and juxtiphi,

Using the Toolbar is the best way to display each ColorMap in turn, alphabetical order.
