Suddenly can't see full-screen mode on TV (Long)
Greetings,
I'm hoping someone here can help me with this. What follows is rather long, but I wanted to make sure anyone who was inclined to help had all the information I could possibly give them. Thanks in advance for reading all the way through (if you choose to do so.)
I've been a happy owner of Aeon, G-Force, and WhiteCap since 2011. In December of 2012 I renewed my platinum subs on Aeon and G-Force and got the newest version of each (G-Force 440 and Aeon 300). I installed them on my new computer (purchased the previous month and running Windows 7 on an Intel i5 and a standalone NVidia video card).
Since I first purchased the visualizers in 2011 I have been using them in standalone mode and pumping the visuals (from all three visualizers) to my home theater flatscreen for viewing while listening to music. This has worked flawlessly and did so when I first ran them on the new computer.
But then later in December I tried to run G-Force and it would not display on the large screen once I put it in fullscreen mode. Aeon worked fine, but G-force would not. Also, the windows desktop will show on the large screen if I change the resolution to 10 X 7, so I am confident the problem is not with the large screen or the computer's communicating with it. I know through experience that my flatscreen wants to see a resolution of 10 X 7, and this was never a problem because that is the full screen resolution for the visualizers, right?
I read in the documentation that G-Force's default full-screen resolution is 10 x 7, and yet the flatscreen doesn't see it when I set G-Force to fullscreen. I suppose I could have changed G-Force 's fullscreen resolution, but I don't know how.
As near as I can tell, G-Force doesn't allow me to change resolution in an onscreen setting menu the way Aeon does and I can't find anywhere to do it in the toolbar.
After checking the documentation, I tried to use the "M" key while G-Force was running. When I did, I got the following error in the upper left-hand corner of the screen:
Undefined Function 'NextFullscreenResolution'
New Resolution: 0x0
If I tried to use the "M" key while in full screen mode, I got the same message with the following addition to the last line: "Reenter full screen mode for changes", which is confusing since I was in full screen mode already.
Finally, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling G-Force, but still had the same problem.
I didn't know if it was related, but the toolbar did not retain the preferences I set (such as close toolbar when G-Force closes).
I was stymied since the first time I used G-Force with this new machine it worked fine and I had not messed around under the G-Force hood. Also, Aeon was working perfectly.
Having run out of ideas, I sent a message to the SoundSpectrum folks through the customer support page on their website. (Not realizing that they were located in NYC and were dealing with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.)
A couple of weeks later I got a response from Paul Brower informing me of the coming major upgrade to G-Force which "should address certain full-screen issues present in our current version." He invited me to sign up for the Beta List and download the beta version of the update (Version 5, I guess?)
I downloaded and installed the Beta and still couldn't get the fullscreen display to show on my TV. The M key did not seem to change the resolution, although I was no longer seeing the error messages I got with the 440 version. I added to my support ticket to inform Soundspectrum of these results back in the beginning of January, I believe) and have yet to hear back
In the meantime, I tried uninstalling the Beta of G-Force 5, and tried re-installing older versions (4.2 and 4.4). Neither of those do full-screen display correctly either, despite having worked fine earlier (with Windows XP and with this new Windows 7 machine).
I was holding out hope that that when Version 5 was officially released it would cure my ills. Then, while poking around on this forum (which I had somehow been oblivious to previously) I saw a post that said the G-Force code was done. So I downloaded Version 5 again and tried it. Still no joy.
Finally, I located my G-Force preferences file and tried changing the preferred display. Nothing.
So, now what? I love G-Force and really love having both Aeon and G-Force to choose from during a viewing session, but if I can't see G-Force on my big screen, it's of no use to me. I could make a stink about wanting my money back, but that's not what I really want. What I want is to be able to enjoy the sheer brilliance of this art-form the SoundSPectrum folks have created. I haven't heard back from the SoundSPectrum folks since that first suggestion to try the beta.
As some princess in some movie once said (kind of), "Help me, forum folks, you're my only hope."
Thanks,
moondog

"Whoa! How did you get your TV to do that?"
Hi BTT,
Well, it's been almost 2 weeks and I have yet to hear from anyone at Soundspectrum either here or via email.
(As a last resort I checked to see if I had any private messages here on the board and I got a message indicating that private messaging had been disabled.)
So, now what?
Thanks,
moondog

Hello moondog
I have today (9th February) sent mail to Paul Brower and Andy O'Meara (the owner of SoundSpectrum) asking for assistance to resolve your issues with G-Force.
Over recent weeks it has felt that SoundSpectrum have been on strike regarding their support dept.
Private messages have been disabled on the forum.
Regards BTT

Hi BTT,
Sadly, no. I have not.
This is most disappointing. It seems I have no recourse at all other than to temper my previous enthusiastic demonstrations of these visualizers with the story of my paying for a premium version that I can't use and facing completely nonexistent tech support.
Is there any hope?
Thanks for checking, though.

Interesting you say its with both your XP and a new Windows 7 machine. Being two different machines like that and everything you tried it almost sounds like its the TV. One thing I would try if you can is another HDMI cable as I am guessing that is how you are connecting and I would also test the video output to anything else like another monitor.
And have you tested with the non-stand alone version?

Actually, everything worked perfectly with my old XP machine.DireWolf wrote:Interesting you say its with both your XP and a new Windows 7 machine. I don't believe that it is the TV or the cable or anything about the TV/computer interface because the problem is ONLY with G-Force. I'm able to see Aeon perfectly fine on the TV.
I have not tested the non-stand alone version. Maybe I'll try downloading the demo and seeing if that works. That would at least provide more info.
Thanks.

Hello moondog
Think it could be a good idea to try again.

Hello all,
I know it's been a while and I thought I would post an update.
The recent spate of beta updates have not resolved my "G-Force not being visible on my TV in full-screen mode" problem but I have discovered a workaround and thought I would share it here.
On a whim, after installing one of the recent betas, I tried changing my computer screen's resolution to 10x7 and then setting G-Force to full screen. Lo and behold, there it was on my TV in all it's G-Forcy glory!
Can't honestly remember whether I had tried that previously, but if I had, it didn't work.
So, G-Force is still not automatically setting itself to 10x7 in full screen mode the way it used to, but I now have a workaround and my retinas and frontal lobes are very happy.
Peace,
moondog
