iTunes 10.5.0 update crashes when launching G-Force

Post by peterj »

Hi, the latest iTunes 10.5.0 is incompatible with G-Force. When G-Force attempts to start it completely crashes iTunes. Aeon, WhiteCap, etc all continue to work fine, it's only G-Force that causes crash.

FYI Workaround is to uninstall both iTunes and Bonjour and then reinstall iTunes 10.4.0.

Click on iTunes (10.5), press cmd I and activate run in 32 bit. iTunes is now in 64 bit, G-Force not :-(

The good news is that G-Force will be available soon in both 32 bit and 64 bit, very soon.

same problem

Post by Kirby »

I'm having the same problem, but my iTunes is version 10.5, 32-bit for Windows XP (Media Edition). Whenever I start the visualizer with a song playing iTunes crashes. Note: If a song isn't playing it does NOT crash! In my experience Aeon does the same thing. I really don't want to start installing old versions of software. I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

Also have this problem

Hi, How long until a 64-bit version is available? My iTunes is also crashing here - have been a customer for 5+ years and lack of 64-bit is really hurting...

Can we get an official update? Or at least when it will work with iTunes 10.5 again?

Are you sure you are running a 64-bit operating system? I'm having this problem and I'm sure my iTunes IS NOT 64-bit (it couldn't run on my 32 bit Windows XP machine). I agree, an update would be nice.

64 bit iTunes myth

Post by ShaggyMcWitherspoon »

The 64 bit iTunes installer still puts a 32 bit "exe" into your x86 programs folder. When running the iTunes process windows shows iTunes.exe*32. These crash issues are probably not a 64 /32 bit issue but more likely an external program execute issue within iTunes (guessing of coarse) and third party writer may simply need to rewrite code to match the "new" protocol. Open to feedback.

Shaggy, I think you are right about this. I suspect that a lot of other folks are having this problem and not reporting it (quietly seathing) or don't know yet know there's a problem. Is anyone at SoundSpectrum listening? It would be nice if they chimed in.

Actually BTT I am only using Aeon these days, that's where my errors come into the picture. I submitted a support "feedback" ticket before I checked the forums (backward), and heard back from them today. To paraphrase, the bug affects third party visualizers like theirs.

Hello ShaggyMcWitherspoon

You did the right thing by contacting SoundSpectrum and it's good to know you received a reply, probably from Paul Brower. If you take a look in the Aeon section of the forum you will see a post there from Andy.

Thanks for the reply BTT, I was feeling kind of dumb for contacting soundspectrum before I checked the forums. I saw Andy's post in Aeon general discussion about five minutes after submitting a ticket and I thought, "D'oh".
