Upgrading to GForce 2.8

Post by Benjammin »

Hi,
I just d/l'd and attempted to install 2.8 on my Windows machine.
I received an error msg. shortly after the "uninstall previous version" prompt I think, referring to a dll file. (I'd selected the uninstall previous version box). Unfortunately, in my frustration, I didn't copy the error message verbatim. All I can recall is ***WMP.dll. I aborted the install as it suggested, then tried again with the same results. My next step, I chose the "Ignore" option. After that, my Media Player wouldn't open. Fortunately, I'd done a "System Restore" just prior to the upgrade attempt and was able to pretty much get things back up and running. However, now when I start up GForce I now see an error msg. stating:
"Warning: The expected version in boot.txt doesn't match the actual version."
I'm currently using GForce Gold, version 2.7.3, the original version that I purchased and that was restored after my aborted attempt at upgrading to 2.8

The only file I can find that references the version number is "vars.txt". In there it states:
VNum=280
VStr="G-Force 2.8"
Is that what I edit in order to avoid the wrong version warning error message? I'll stay with my earlier version of GForce instead of the upgrade. I'm only posting this to let the tech staff know about the errors.

I'm running a Dell Windows XP (w/all service packs installed) with a 2.4 GHz processor, 2 Gigs of RAM, and use GForce in Windows Media Player Version 10 only, No other players at the present.

I don't knmow what mess you have got into but can you do a full uninstall of GF (not when promted when installing teh new version) and then a full reinstall. Mixing up version numbers and editing stuff can get confusing.

Start from the begining.

But I felt froggy, so I leaped in and modified all of the "280" occurrences in boot.txt to "273"and everything seems fine. (273 = Version 2.7.3, the version actually installed and running I guess)

Attempting to install the upgrade was what I was doing when the original problems popped up so I didn't want to try that again.

was g-force running as you did the install ? Maybe it was unable to release files to be upgraded coz it was still running ?
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.

No, GForce wasn't running.

Thanks for your reply tho. I'll just stick with 2.7.3.
