GF not working at all

Post by brendang2000 »

I have a supermicro CPU running XP that GF was installed on and running fine until the hard-drive failed. After replacing the hard-drive and reinstalling GF, I can no longer get GF to run. The standalone version will start up in a window, but will not allow you to do anything to it. Also, the “image” looks like it just took a screen shot of the desktop. The V-bar just crashes. The tool bar appears to function properly, but doesn't change the stand alone version's appearance. I have installed Aeon as well and this reacts the same way.

I have updated to the newest video driver I could find (ATI ES1000 chipset), and also updated DirectX to the current version. The CPU passes all DirectX tests. I tried to run GF in Winamp and Itunes, but neither of these work as well. I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello brendang2000

Sorry for the delay, my version of Windows crashed (format - fresh install etc).

When you uninstalled both programs did you use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel?.

Also, you should check in C:\Program Files to see if there is a SoundSpectrum Folder there and, if so delete it. Also check in Documents & Settings\Your Name\Application Data to see if there is a SoundSpectrum folder there and, if so delete it.

Restart your PC then try installing one program only and, see how it goes.

Hello BTT,
I have tried your idea and even searched the registry and deleted all Soundspectrum, G-force and Aeon items before installing only GF, but still I am unable to get GF to run.

Hello brendang2000

Then the only thing I can think of is that maybe both downloads have somehow become corrupt. If you click on the following link you can download the two programs again and, see if that solves the problem.

http://www.soundspectrum.com/support/do ... ducts.html

If after trying that you are still experiencing problems then I would suggest you click on the following link which will put you in direct contact with SoundSpectrum.

http://www.soundspectrum.com/support/contact.html

You will receive an automated reply together with a Ticket No (keep this some where safe) and, SoundSpectrum will contact you direct in a few days.

Let us know how you get on.

Hello BTT,
Yea, had no luck with that either. I contacted support direct four days ago and received my ticket number, but have yet to hear back. I'll post what they come up with. Thanks for you help.

hello rendang2000

I was wondering if you have any itunes or other apple products running in your comp.

If so there is a possible problem with an apple program called bonjour.

this program has been known to stop GF in its tracks so if you have this running in your comp, find the exe program and delete it. it will not impact your apple progs.

once you find the bonjour prog and remove it follow the same advice BTT gave you and redelete and sound spectrum folders in your comp . look in the your documents folder > application data folder. there you will find a sound spectrum folder with the preference files. then restart your comp and try GF again.

I hope this will help you!

:D

Hello brendang2000

There is something strange going on here. Are you experiencing any problems with your other programs?. Are you seeing any screen flicker?

Have you heard from SounSpectrum yet?

I agree, there is something weird going on here, why did this work on the old hard-drive but not the new one? I haven't used this CPU much as it's dedicated to running GF in stand alone mode. I haven't noticed anything odd while installing, updating or trouble shooting though.
I did hear back from Soundspectrum a few days ago, but didn't use the email that I bought GF and Aeon through, so now I'm waiting on them again. I'll keep everyone posted.

Hello brendang2000

Just a thought, have you checked you have the correct drivers for your machine, in particular your graphics card?

BTT,
I do have the latest version from Supermicro, but my video chipset is no longer listed on the ATI/AMD website; I have emailed ATI asking for the lateset driver and they refered me back to Supermicro.

I did notice something while looking through the DirectX utility, it says that there is no Direct3D function. Odd... I whould think that GF would need this and like I said before, GF was installed and running fine on this CPU until the harddrive failed. So maybe there is another display driver out there? While doing a web search, I noticed a version with a later date on an untrusted website, but I'm a little put off as the file was an exe.

Soundspectrum got back to me last night. They wanted to make sure my "hardware acceleration" was at full, but that still didn't help. I'm going to ask about the Direct3D function and post what they reply. Thanks!

Hello brendang2000

May I suggest when you have some spare time you check out the various links below. The more you say the more I am becoming convinced this is not a G-Force issue but, a driver compatibility problem, or maybe incorrect drivers have been installed.

http://www.supermicro.co.uk/support/bios/

http://www.motherboardpro.com/Supermicr ... -1165.html

I really do hope one of the above will resolve this issue.

Hello BTT,
I agree, there must be something odd with the video chipset or driver. I have contacted Supermicro as well, asking about the latest driver.

I have GF installed on another computer with a different video chipset, all the video setting are set the same, yet this one works fine.

Could there be some secondary Microsoft/Windows application that needs to be installed that maybe I missed?
