Install Error: Error opening file for writing

Post by earthjeremy »

System: Windows XP

This is the exact error:

===========================================
G-Force Setup
Error opening file for writing:

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Visualizations\G-Force_WMP.dll

Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file
============================================

1) Clicking RETRY gives the same error
2) Clicking IGNORE continues with the install, however when I run the visuzliation it still says "This is a trial version"
3) I have tried installing both by checking the box for "Override Files" and by not checking it and the same error comes up.
4) In trying to delete the file Windows says that it cannot delete because the file may be in use.[/b]

Please give some more details. System specs often help.

As a guess you are running GF under Windows Media Player. YEs?

ANd are you trying to run the gold version?

Have you tried totally uninstalling GF and then reinstalling it.

I have seen this error too...but only when I have tried to install G-Force while WMP10 is still running. Close WMP10, wait a few minutes and try to install G-Force again. If that still doesn't work, reboot. Sometimes WMP10 takes awhile to "unload" all of it's resource, so I have seen this error even after I have closed WMP10.

My recommendation is to reboot and try to install G-Force before ever running WMP10. Before you reboot, make sure that you have turned off the WMP10 toolbar and that you aren't loading WMP10 as part of your Windows Startup.

Hope this helps!
