G-Force 2.6.4 - prefs changed again! What should values be?

Post by dsperber »

Yet once again, PREFS.TXT values have changed in scale. I went through this a few versions ago, and now I have to go through it again. I have NO idea what the values of these variables should be!!!

Since there still is no documentation providing instructions for customization of BOOT.TXT or PREFS.TXT (except buried deep within BOOT.TXT in a form, I must confess, that is not helpful to me), and since the "scale" of these values has changed yet again in the latest 2.6.4 version of G-Force gold, I am pleading with someone (author???) to provide insights and suggested settings.

After much questioning, I finally got suggestions as to how to adjust 2.6.2 and had the following values set in PREFS.TXT:

PSmo=87,
FFde=200,
FSmo=98,
SScl=19148,
RScl=12990,
LBst=2,

Now that I've installed 2.6.4 these same values appear (by default) as:

PSmo=.008999,
FFde=.2,
FSmo=.009998,
SScl=1,
RScl=1,
LBst=1,

I ask (of the author?): what should I change the new 2.6.4 values to (if at all) in order to achieve the same performance, behavior and appearance that I had with 2.6.2?

Thanks in advance. (if only there were some real documentation with examples and suggestions, I could probably have answered this myself).

not much actually has changed [ from what i can determine ] except for the decimal placements. per your inquiry try this:

PSmo=.008777,
FFde=.21,
FSmo=.009998,
SScl=1.9148,
RScl=1.2990,
LBst=2,

Shortly after my post, I decided to try using the -+ and [] keys to control the two main variables in question, and decided to settle on the following values. Note that the scale of these two has again changed, with 1.0000 now being the base (as opposed to the original 1000, and then 10000 in 2.6.2):

SScl=1.915686,
RScl=1.384083,

These numbers are sort of close to what I had been using, scaled back to 1.0000.

I guess I could also have used:

SScl=1.9148,
RScl=1.2990,

to match my earlier 2.6.2 values, scaled back to 1.000.

(sure wish there was documentation again)

By popular demand, I'll be documenting the prefs data file... It's just that this takes time...
